Luka Bloom

Until now, I could only offer a few photographs of Luka Bloom, but I thankfully had the pleasure of seeing him perform again in January 2005, so I have added a review of that.  Still, none of this is enough to do his amazing talent justice!

I first saw him at the Fleadh festival in Finsbury Park on 10 July 1999, when I was so moved by him, I immediately bought all his albums that I could find.  He was amazing.  Unfortunately, as his music was new to me, I could not take a setlist (and was too busy being in awe of him anyway).  I do remember 'You Couldn't Have Come at a Better Time,' which is still one of my very favourites.

Next, I saw him at the Union Chapel in Islington on 30 November 1999, and whilst I am quite certain I reviewed this concert, I have no record of it, but will keep searching.  So meanwhile, I can only supply the setlist and a few photos--nothing too impressive as I did not want to disturb his performance with a camera flash, as is often the case.

Sadly, I had front row and centre tickets to see Luka play at the South Bank Centre on 1 April 2001, and was terribly excited at the prospect, but chose that time to contract a three-week illness that caused me to miss a guaranteed marvellous concert.  Luka would have played with two empty seats before him in the front row.... Sigh.

Fortunately, I can now add to these iffy photos a review of his support slot for the original line-up of Planxty at the Barbican Centre on 31 January 2005.   - *New *
